Adventures In Health: Our Story

In the past few years I have been in a health revolution of sorts, mostly against my bad habits and lack of knowledge.  It all started when my husband, Dan, and I took the Ultimate Reset from Beachbody, which is a 20-day vegan diet that doesn’t starve you, but gently “resets” your body to a healthy toxin-free state.  The point is, we loved how great we felt every day and we remained vegan for quite some time, even with Dan working in a steakhouse.  I started eating some meat and dairy when my pregnancy cravings started screaming CHICK-FIL-A, and so the sympathy weight came for Dan too.  So basically, taking this one challenge led us down a path of more awareness and a thirst for knowledge.

When we found out we were pregnant we were guided by chance to a birthing center because we had limited funds and no health insurance.  We took the tour and we knew we were in the right place.  As we began to learn from the midwives and the community surrounding this lifestyle, our eyes began to open.  Conventional and cultural beliefs were broken down to what they really were, to their true origins.  We watched Ricki Lake’s documentary “The Business of Being Born” and we were hooked into this lifelong change of always seeking truth for ourselves, or the best we could.

Our research and decisions have led us to eating mostly whole foods and not processed foods, juicing around mealtime, working out daily, birthing Phoenix all naturally away from the hospital environment.  A big step forward in our LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) life was when we discovered a brand of essential oils that was potent enough to be truly beneficial to our health.  I know you have probably heard a lot about essential oils lately, but I’ll give you the basics and if you have any questions I am here for you.

Young Living is the brand we use, and they have been around for decades and are a worldwide company.  I used to buy essential oil from HEB, (a local grocer in Texas), because it was cheaper but soon after using Young Living I realized I use much fewer drops because of the potency.  Therefore they cost about the same in the long run, but now I have much better quality and better health benefits.

No, these oils will not cure or treat diseases, but they support overall health like the building blocks of a healthy body.  You can use them to support your senses by diffusing, you can take them internally, and you can use them on your skin directly and diluted depending on the oil.  Young Living offers many products containing their essential oils as well, including vitamins, beauty products, and cleaning products.  We use our essential oils to make all of our products which leads me to our next adventure.

Just remember this blog is here for you and I’m never too busy to help a friend, (for any reason).  So please contact me if you have any questions at all.  Thank you for taking the time to read this blog.  I hope it helps inspire change in your life in some way, big or small.  Wishes of happiness to you all!

I’m going to share this with my daughter. I know she wants to expand her family in a whole and healthy way. Baby Phoenix is the best advertising you will ever have!

Sounds like you have really done well at working on having a healthy lifestyle for yourselves and for Phoenix! I have heard some friends talk about using essential oils, but I don’t really know much about them. I’d be interested in learning more about them. Years ago, I was also introduced to a line of beauty products that avoids all of the extra additives and toxins, but unfortunately, it was really expensive, so I didn’t keep up with it.
